This is one of my favorite photos from our trip to Belize. Yuma’s House is one of only a few hostels on the islands of Belize – this one on Caye Caulker. It’s definitely one of the best views I’ve ever had from a hostel! It’s cheap at $14 a person for a bunk in a four bed room and there is a kitchen and hammocks which we love. However, you can’t flush your toilet paper (fairly common in Belize) and there was no hot water in the showers.
If this photo looks a little unnatural, that’s because it is. It’s an HDR image, which is a combination of three different images with varying exposures. This allows it to have great detail in both the shadows and bright areas and really pumps up the detail. After that, I adjusted things to make the colors a little more vibrant and sharpened the edges a bit.

I loved Caye Caulker when I visited many years ago. I stayed at Bella’s Backpackers and I don’t think they had hot water either. I think they figure it’s too hot already to want hot water.
